SOCIAL SECURITY COLA FOR 2012

According to the Associated Press, Social Security recipients nationwide will get a 3.6 percent Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) beginning in 2012!  The increase was announced Wednesday, October 19, 2011 when the measure of inflation that determines whether Social Security recipients get a COLA was released.  For the average monthly Social Security recipient who receives a payment of $1,082.00 per month, this will amount to an increase of approximately $39.00 per month or $467.00 per year.

ATTENTION  ALL  COMMONWEALTH  RETIREES

As a result of the recent flooding and damage caused by Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee, a number of commonwealth agencies are seeking temporary staffing for Disaster Recovery Centers in the following counties:

Bradford              Lycoming             *Lebanon                  *Philadelphia                     *Chester

Columbia             Dauphin               *Northumberland        *Northampton

Luzerne              Sullivan                 *Schuylkill                  *Montgomery

Wyoming             *Lancaster          *Bucks                       *Susquehanna

*Denotes pending Disaster Recovery Center locations yet to be opened.  Additional affected areas may be added.

The Disaster Recovery Centers are created to assist disaster victims by providing information and assistance relative to housing assistance, federal aid, home repair grants, small business loans, victim crisis and counseling services, emergency food programs and other necessary services.  Experience in providing assistance and service related to any of these areas is particularly helpful.

Commonwealth retirees may only work as an annuitant for a maximum of 95 work days in any calendar year.  If you have worked for another agency as an annuitant this year, please keep the 95 day limitation in mind when considering this opportunity.  Interested commonwealth retirees may reach out to any of the agencies listed below for opportunities available.  Please indicate when contacting one or more of the agencies below which of the county or counties you are available for work.  Please also note any particular experience you have that will prove beneficial in assisting in one of the Disaster Recovery Centers.  Thank you for your consideration in assisting with this important initiative.

Welcome to PARSE

The Pennsylvania Association of Retired State Employees (PARSE) was established in 1973 as a non-profit association for the benefit of any retiree receiving a pension from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and their spouse as well as active state employees who are eligible to receive a pension from the Commonwealth and their spouse.  Currently, there are thousands of members throughout Pennsylvania in 29 chapters as well as many members who reside throughout the United States.

This association is organized and functions to offer its members health benefits lost upon retiring from the Commonwealth as well as programs that benefit the members in their retirement.  Furthermore, the association works to advance and promote the interest of all state annuitants through  the promotion of legislation favorable to our members, encouraging the chapters in the educational, financial, and social welfare of our members, and cooperating with other organizations advancing the interests of retirees in general.
